What is Autism?
Autism is a lifelong, neurodevelopmental disability that affects how a person communicates with and relates to other people, and how they experience the world around them.

It isn't clear what causes autism and many experts believe it isn’t caused by just one thing. There may be several autistic people within a family, so researchers think that genes may play a role. Autism isn't caused by vaccines or the way someone has been brought up.

Autism is often described as a 'spectrum' condition because autistic people experience autism in different ways, and some need more support than others in the areas they struggle with. There is no such thing as 'being a little bit autistic' or 'mildly autistic'
Every autistic person is a unique individual just as every non-autistic person is! There is a saying - "if you've met one autistic person then you've met one autistic person"
